Going back 200 years or so three families settled on adjacent farms that are now the city boundaries of Brentwood 63144. The area became known as Maddenville in the early 1870’s named for Thomas Madden. Madden was recognized as the entrepreneur of the community, as he operated a rock quarry, tavern, barbershop, grocery store and blacksmith shop. Brentwood was established as a village in December, 1919 to avoid annexation by neighboring Maplewood. Today it has approximately 8,000 residents and 650 commercial businesses. While Brentwood has grown over the years in both residential and commercial properties, it still maintains it’s small town feel.
